The AGROSUS project participated in the XI International Congress of Agroecology, held in Mozambique from 8 to 11 June 2026. Held under the theme “Agroecological Practices: From Food Invisibility to Food Sovereignty”, the congress brought together researchers, farmers, policymakers, and civil society organisations to exchange knowledge and discuss innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture, food security, and rural development.
Representing AGROSUS, Xavier Simón, researcher at the University of Vigo (UVigo), presented “What Agricultural Systems Do We Need to Revitalize Gaza? Insights from a Multicriteria Sustainability Assessment”. Focusing on the challenges of rebuilding agricultural and food systems after extreme events, the presentation examined evidence from 60 scientific studies assessing the sustainability of alternative farming systems through Multicriteria Analysis (MCA).
The results highlighted a strong convergence between the characteristics of agroecological systems and the needs of territories undergoing recovery and reconstruction. By considering environmental, social, and economic dimensions simultaneously, the analysis showed how agroecological approaches can contribute to more resilient, sustainable, and adaptive food systems in vulnerable regions.
