The AGROSUS consortium successfully held its third Annual General Assembly in Reykjavík, Iceland, from 24 to 26 June 2026, bringing together project partners from across Europe to review progress, discuss future actions, and strengthen collaboration towards sustainable weed management strategies.
Hosted by the Icelandic Agricultural Advisory Centre (RML), the three-day meeting provided an opportunity for researchers, industry representatives, and stakeholders to evaluate the progress achieved during the third year of the project and to coordinate the next stages of implementation.
Day 1: Reviewing Progress Across the Work Packages
The meeting opened with a welcome address by Karvel L. Karvelsson, Managing Director of RML, who welcomed the consortium to Iceland. This was followed by an introduction to the third Annual Meeting by AGROSUS Project Coordinator Adela M. Sánchez Moreiras from the University of Vigo.
The first afternoon was dedicated to reviewing the progress achieved across the project’s work packages. Work package leaders presented the latest developments and discussed the implementation of activities carried out during the reporting period. Sessions covered progress in project coordination, agronomic research, experimental activities, and the development of sustainable weed management solutions. Partners provided feedback on ongoing activities and identified priorities and challenges for the coming months. The day concluded with a summary of the main outcomes and the identification of key actions to be addressed during the remaining project period.
Day 2: Collaboration, Knowledge Exchange and Scientific Progress
The second day wok package presentations continued with communication, dissemination, exploitation and ethics. Partners discussed ongoing work package developments and participated in a dedicated discussion session to clarify questions and coordinate future tasks.
A central element of the morning programme was the networking workshop with sister projects, which explored opportunities for future collaboration. Maria Anastasi from the CONSERWA project and Alexandros Tataridas from the GOOD project presented their initiatives and discussed potential synergies with AGROSUS.
Additional presentations highlighted innovative approaches being developed within the consortium. SEIPASA shared its experience in bioherbicide development, covering the process from active ingredient selection to final validation, while CSIC presented smart digital tools for early weed identification. The afternoon was dedicated to presentations by project partners, who showcased field and laboratory activities carried out across Europe. These sessions demonstrated the diversity of research approaches and highlighted the significant progress achieved in developing sustainable and innovative weed management solutions.
Day 3: Future Steps and Exploitation of Results
The final day began with a workshop focused on intellectual property rights and the exploitation of project results, providing partners with guidance on maximizing the future impact of AGROSUS outcomes. The consortium also reviewed updates with the members of the Expert Advisory Board Andreas Meyer-Aurich (D4AgEcol coordinator) and Oliver Weiss (advisor specialized in organic and agroecological agriculture) and discussed the next steps for the project. During the concluding session, partners reaffirmed their commitment to delivering innovative and environmentally friendly solutions for sustainable weed management.
Technical Visit
The Annual General Assembly concluded with a field trip through South Iceland, providing participants with the opportunity to discover innovative agricultural practices in the region. The group visited horticultural fields in Flúðir and the Flúðasveppir mushroom farm before travelling to the renowned Friðheimar farm in Reykholt. The visit included a greenhouse tour and a social dinner, offering an excellent setting for informal discussions and knowledge exchange among partners.
The Reykjavík meeting strengthened collaboration among AGROSUS partners and reinforced the consortium’s shared ambition to develop effective and sustainable solutions for weed management. By combining scientific excellence, technological innovation and international cooperation, AGROSUS continues to contribute to a more resilient and environmentally responsible agricultural sector in Europe.
